A Glimpse of the 5th AOCR, 1987 Through The Congress Newspaper

Did you know in 1987, an AOSR Committee on Biological Effects was set up with Dr Kunthon Sundaravej of Thailand being appointed as the Chair? Or that Dr David Cosgrove, presented on the 'Role of Ultrasound in Oncology" at the congress? 

The AOSR Archives was delighted to have access to an original September 25, 1987 (no. 3) official newspaper of the 5th Asian Oceanian Congress of Radiology, held for the first time in Seoul, South Korea. This gave an opportunity to take a peek into the congress action of 1987. The host organization, Korean Society of Radiology announced that it was donating a new President's Chain of Office and an AOSR flag. The founding AOSR President Dr William Hare was re-elected as secretary-treasurer of the AOSR, and Dr Man Chung Han, the secretary general of the 5th AOCR was elected assistant secretary-treasurer for the next 4 years. In the early days of the AOSR, the AOCR was held every 4 years.

A few other interesting snippets were discovered in this 'newspaper'.  Speakers included several giants in radiology such as in musculoskeletal, abdominal and radiation oncology. The current development of radiological technology is overwhelming," said Dr Donald Resnick and had commented that the high price of imaging machines had to be lowered for greater access. An abstract of the lecture on "Recent Advances in MRI"  by Dr Joseph KT Lee and excerpts from the plenary on radiation oncology by Dr Herman Suit were some of the contents. There was a ladies program for accompanying persons, as well as an official congress tour to the Korean Folk Village for more than 600 radiologists and their accompanying persons.
