The AOSR Global Leadership Practicum in Radiology at the 24th Asian Oceanian Congress of Radiology, Aug 20, 2026, Singapore

The 20th of August 2026 was another AOSR milestone in imparting leadership and related skills as it kicked off its first Global Leadership Practicum (GLP) in Radiology with a full day on-site program. There was a total of 19 participants from 11 AOSR member societies at the Singapore Expo, which is the largest Singapore convention and exhibition venue in Singapore. Whilst the practicum was intended for those in mid-career, the career stages were varied post residency, with some who were society presidents, vice-presidents or secretaries in their home societies.
Participants' Feedback
The overall feedback was good and encouraging for the start of this 2-year long practicum. A third of the participants gave it a 4-star and two thirds gave it a 5-star rating (with the highest being 5 star). Some of the comments included: ‘the program offered genuinely practical introduction to leadership for radiologists’; ‘the concept of title-free leadership was particularly empowering’; ‘the most valuable aspect was the experiential role-playing methodology enabling participants to be exposed to authentic leadership dilemmas commonly encountered in radiology practice; and ‘diversity of participants from different cultures/regions with experienced and expert faculty/mentors for guidance’.
The Faculty
The faculty provided diverse experience from various leadership roles within and outside of Asia-Oceania. They were Drs Geraldine McGinty, Frank Lexa, Chamaree Chuapetcharasopon, Cher Heng Tan, Sanjay Jeganathan and Evelyn Ho. The topics covered were Leading Without Title; Leadership vs Management in Radiology, Difficult Conversations with scenarios and breakout groups with role play; Managing Up, Down & Across – Influencing Stakeholders; Leading the Way in Advancing Patient Care and Medical Imaging Research Through Collaboration. The latter was contributed by Dr Lance Hu of United Imaging Healthcare, representing the vendor perspective. The tea and meal breaks provided opportunities for informal mentoring and networking.

The AOSR Global Leadership Practicum in Radiology is a hybrid leadership development program designed to prepare emerging and mid‑career radiologists for future leadership roles within their home societies, institutions, and across the Asia‑Oceania region. This practicum is a formal AOSR capacity‑building initiative, combining international faculty instruction, structured peer learning, mentorship, and a capstone project that delivers tangible strategic value back to each participant’s home society. The program emphasizes practical leadership skills, cultural context, and real‑world application rather than theoretical instruction alone. The onsite session at the AOCR2026 will be followed by about 8 online modules culminating in the closing onsite session at the AOCR2028, Hong Kong.
